This research investigates the political dynamics linking the legacy of Chico Mendes, the struggles of forest peoples, and the trajectory of the Partido dos Trabalhadores (PT) in Acre between the 1980s and 2010s. Using a qualitative approach, it articulates the narratives of three key actors - Marina Silva, Osmarino Amâncio, and Nilson Mourão - whose paths intersect with the history of the PT in the state, combined with a literature review, document analysis, and electoral data. The study contextualizes Acre's socio-spatial formation, marked by rubber cycles, historical exploitation, and the union-organizational resistance of rubber tappers, to understand how practices like the empates (standoffs) and the creation of extractive reserves (brazilian RESEX) underpinned the party's rise.

The PT established itself in the state by presenting itself as the political heir to the struggles led by Chico Mendes, projecting itself as the representative of the "Povos da Floresta" and linking socio-environmental demands to an alternative development project. The research analyzes how this bond was maintained - or transformed - during 16 years of PT hegemony (2000-2016) and investigates the factors contributing to the subsequent electoral decline. Beyond internal tensions, such as the bureaucratization of leadership and distancing from community bases, the impact of national dynamics, like the conservative rise post-2013 and the 2016 coup, on the reconfiguration of the local political scene is examined.

The analysis discusses internal products of the PT structure in Acre and reflects on contradictions - between social movements and governability - regarding the resurgence of historically rooted oligarchic structures, now revitalized under new political guises. By juxtaposing memories, projects, and failures, the study aims to contribute to debates on the challenges of sustaining popular struggles in contexts of reactionary advancement, highlighting Acre and its insertion into the class struggle.
