"Gender Is the New Environment": Corporate Practices and the Gender Agenda in the Mining Sector
Gender; Mining; Corporate Social Responsibility; Feminist Political Ecology; Territorial Control.
This research aims to analyse how corporations in the mining sector incorporate gender issues, viewing this dynamic as part of corporate governance strategies for reputation management, social risk management, and territorial control. To this end, drawing on feminist epistemology and mobilising critical intersectional approaches and Latin American feminist political ecology, it will analyse: institutional narratives; corporate programs and policies related to the gender agenda developed by the mining sector; and corporate social responsibility initiatives targeting women in territories affected by mining in Brazil, with a focus on the case of Vale S.A. The research seeks to understand the political, economic, and territorial meanings and implications of these strategies. The methodology employed is qualitative research of an analytical nature, involving ethnographic studies of two annual industry events, the Brazilian Mining Expo & Congress (Exposibram), and Mining &X Communities, as well as documentary and bibliographic analysis.
