RESUMO:

Contemporary society is constantly changing with the intensification of communication and
transport flows and, consequently, changes in urban-rural relations. The expanded supply of
information and goods to areas that previously had access difficulties tends to change urbanrural
relations. Such processes may focus on the food practices of rural households. This paper
uses food practices as an instrument to analyze these transformations effects on basic and daily
activities of human life. Those practices include the food consumption composition of these
farming families, their main determinants and the food origin. Thus, this study investigates the
changes and permanences in the food practices of farming families that integrate and Organic
fair in a metropolitan region municipality and their Food Security and Sovereignty effects on
these families. The fieldwork takes place in the Guapimirim municipality and is conducted on
semi-structured interviews and food practices observations. The focus is on women with the
intention of valuing their work in rural areas and the importance they represent for their families
Food Security and Sovereignty, especially in selfconsumption production.
