RESUMO:
This thesis aims to analyze the way and in which dimensions of social life women are affected by the dynamics of contemporary rurality and how this is reflected in the social configurations of gender and, consequently, in the position of women in society. it was chosen, theoretically and methodologically, inspired by Norbert Elias's work, the use of the term configurations instead of gender relations, in order to encompass greater complexity of social life, ranging from the initial socialization processes to interactions more recent, without forget exogenous factors that affect social constructions. The category way of life is used to understand rurality, which, translated into identities and representations, guides the strategies and use of opportunities placed in the exercise of past activities, linked to agriculture and other recently developed that take advantage of the use and appreciation of natural resources. Such conditions were observed in the municipality of Cunha, located in the Vale do Paraíba, state of São Paulo, universe of this research. As a method, we used the analysis of the life trajectory of women working in the development of activities related to tourism, agroecology and livestock, from semi-structured interviews; as well as participant observation. The search shows that in the dynamics of contemporary rurality are open new possibilities for insertion for women. The use of these opportunities is not unequivocal, if expressed heterogeneously, given their own life trajectories and the interdependencies that determine the use or embarrassment of opportunities that arise and will focus on their social position, especially with regard to work and income, education and training, and the use of time, dimensions of social life that affect women's capacities.
