Volta Grande do Xingu; Gold mining; Belo Sun; Land grabbing.

This paper intends to approach the control of part of the brazilian amazon territory by the transnational capital which develops and invests in gold ore prospection and extraction projects. We aim to show, through a case study on the Volta Grande Project, by the canadian junior company Belo Sun Mining, how these international actors of the mineral extraction sector go forward on corporate and financial control upon brazilian land and the resources contained in it. From this axis, it is set in motion a gold industry that gathers strengh since 2002 in the commodity boom and that seeks to establish relations with a neoextractivist State leaned on a re-primary economy. In this sense, we identified to be a competitive land and natural resources assault in Brazil by foreign actors, who steps into immediate conflict with traditional ways of using and handling forest and countryside territories by indigenous and peasants populations. In order to lighten the issue, we seek back up in a specialized literature developing concepts such as global land rush and land grabbing, aiming to approach the dispossessions and the plunders as dimensions of the current advanced fase of capitalism, as well as the financial demands for real alternative assets. For the purpose of this research, in addition to secondary bibliographic sources, we will apprize legal documents on the project, and Belo Sun’s financial and meetings reports.
