Evaluation of post-harvest quality of Tanguá oranges with a view to proving their uniqueness in order to obtain a geographical indication
Designation of origin, Citrus, post-harvest qualityThe Citrus genus is cultivated all over the world, where several species are planted and produced in regions with tropical, subtropical and Mediterranean climate. The global production of citrus fruits has significant numbers, where millions of tons are produced in recent years, of which orange stands out as one of the most important species. Citriculture is an important economic activity nationwide, where the main ones are the oranges Bahia, Pêra, Natal, Valencia, Hamlim, Westin and rubi, which makes it the largest producer of sweet type orange. Cares mainly in the post-harvest are essential to maintain the quality of the orange as well as the good appearance of the fruit, flavor, aroma and nutritional value. Foods that have differentiated qualities due to their production method, natural characteristics attributed to the product, are factors that stand out when the food has a Geographical Indication (GI). The post-harvest quality of the Tanguá orange to obtain the Geographical Indication is of relevant importance to give competitiveness to the product produced in the State of Rio de Janeiro. Thus, it is necessary to study the evaluation of the quality of oranges in the municipality of Tanguá to support the definition of the geographical indication of the municipality.
