EMPLOYMENT OF REHABILITATION PROTOCOL WITH STRETCHING AND FUNCTIONAL THERAPEUTIC BANDAGE FOR ACUTE LOMBAR PAIN IN SALT EQUINE
equine sports medicine, low back pain, stretching, functional therapeutic bandaging.
BACKGROUND: Low back pain is one of the most common problems found in athlete horses, but despite its high prevalence, it is still very difficult for clinicians to perform the diagnosis and to establish therapeutic management. There are several therapeutic modalities available, and in recent years complementary therapies have been gaining space with emphasis on manual therapies. Stretching is one of these modalities, being easily accessible and at no cost to the person doing it. The functional therapeutic bandage proposes to complement the applied manual therapies, making its effect extend beyond the session. There are few studies in equine medicine in relation to these therapies, although there is ample empirical knowledge. The efficacy of these methods should be documented and scientifically evaluated, with emphasis on the functional therapeutic bandaging method, since this method lacks research in veterinary medicine, necessitating studies.
