SUMMARY:

This research aims to analyze trajectories and possibilities from a differet perspective in the post-abolition period of migrantion of Blacks from Vale do Paraíba and the rural areas to the City of Rio de Janeiro between 1920-1940. Therefore, we seek to understand aspects of the daily life: actions and decisions taken based on strategies and reinterpretations according to their values in the post-abolition period. Based on that, we search for understand aspects such as work, dwelling, family, sociability and racial identity. For that, we used the names as a methodological guideline, as well as the Casa de Detenção as the main source to find these Black migrants. Then, this data was crossed with others sources, such as the Family Search and newspapers found in the Hemeroteca Digital. Thus, this reaserch follow some individual and collective trajectories to achieve new perspectives to analyze Black migrations in the City of Rio de Janeiro.
