SUMMARY:

This work seeks to understand the thinking of men who lived in the eighteenth century, known as the century of Enlightenment. Assuming that there was no hegemonic thought, we studied the document written by the Minas Gerais Ombudsman Tomas Antônio Gonzaga, in the context of the Minas Gerais conjuration, the Chilean Letters.
We compared what was written in the Letters to the texts of neo-Thomist treatises, in search of traces of a  conservative thought still present at that time.
