National Guard, Rio de Janeiro, Institution, Relationship
This research aims to analyze the composition and performance of the National Guard in the city of Rio de Janeiro between 1831 and 1850. Our focus is to understand how the representatives of this institution articulated with the local social and political arrangements of the city, as well as the relationships established with the central power of the empire. The period in question marks the initial stage of the institution, from the internal definition of eligibility criteria for official positions to the legal suppression of this process. This change represents a significant change in the institution's parameters, which makes this period particularly relevant for the proposed analysis.
