This work discusses the activities of social movements in the 1970s and 1980s in the municipality of São João de Meriti.
Based on newspaper analyzes of the time, the research presents the main demands for public policies in the territory. And it also focuses on the role of the communist organization, Ala Vermelha, in the strategies for building and articulating social movements.
