This research aims to analyze Bernal Díaz's objective in writing his chronicle Historia Verdadera de la Conquista de la Nueva España, first published in 1632. Bernal Díaz participated in the early exploration and conquest campaigns of the Amerindian territory, particularly the campaign led by Hernán Cortés, which Díaz examines in depth. Through his text, we seek to analyze Díaz's intentions in rewriting the narrative of the conquest, focusing on the characteristics of his writing, his motivations, and his disagreements. Furthermore, we intend to examine how his discourse on the merit of the conquest influenced his writing and how the author sought to shift the protagonism of the conquest toward himself.
