SUMMARY:

The main objective of this paper is to analyze the memories of the November 9 Memorial monument, located in the city of Volta Redonda, observing the role that these memories play in the imagination of this city that, since its formation, has been marked by a strong working-class presence. The monument, built in 1989, refers to the traumatic event that occurred the year before its construction, the 1988 Strike of the Companhia Siderúrgica Nacional (CSN), which resulted in three deaths. The memorial also acquired a new meaning after suffering a terrorist attack later that year. Thus, the dissertation seeks to explore, through the monument, the way in which the memories of the events that occurred were and are treated in Volta Redonda.
