Rock, as an object of study has been the subject of research in human sciences’ area precisely, since the 1980s. In those researches and publications, the leadership role are predominantly attributed to male. Whereas females are poorly represented and rarely appears as prominent player or leaders. In the process of consolidating "Rock and Roll," although women's talents had the same qualities as men, they hardly achieved the same status. The mainly protagonist and leadership are placed on male singers and composers. They usually, accentuated their dominant male figure on the artistic circle. This doctoral thesis entitled Aphrodite if you Want: The protagonist role of women in Brazilian rock in the 1980s propose to situate the reader through historical epistemological support, the incursion of women’s work in the artistic scenery of Rock Holl, which still are a space c reated and hold by men. It discusses the protagonist role of women in Brazilian rock, highlighting their experiences and problematizing how their "voice" alter the hierarchy shaped by male’s perspective over how rock history had been constructed. Under invisibility, females had created their character role, insistently through action of belonging to sphere of rock, spite difficulties imposed by their males counterpart. These character can be understood as overthrow the male figure, conquest of space and speak their voice. Therefore, making their mark in musical art to communicate with the world, sphere once restricted to male. Throughout their voice, one can see that the role played by women in the space of rock, usually refers, simply to their physical presence in this setting. This study attempt to legitimized those voices as they are linked to Rock and Holl history, consolidating and recognizing these environment as having a space for all. The statements g iven by Brazilian artists are essential to understand women as rocker, as well as their political role in the society. It also, addresses the topic of the importance of composing the lyrics of songs. As an element of analysis, women were interviewed about their involvement in Rock and Holl’s movement and the artistic production of rock songs. Their remarks clearly notice their contribution, even though rock memory are view as male history. these musical genre demand good musician performance, especially guitar players, which in general are reserved for men in the history they wrote themselves. Inversely, in this thesis several women wrote the story.
