RESUMO:

In this dissertation we will analyze the relations between medical knowledge and female homosexual practices at the beginning of the 20th century. Considering the autonomy of medicine in the face of family structure and female behavior based on social and medical recommendations, we seek to study how the doctor José Ricardo Pires de Almeida describes the behaviors of these women, taking into account his intention in dealing with moral hygiene based on studies on debauchery and perversions. In this sense, it is intended to observe how research was conducted on the behavior, duties and obligations of these women in the First Republic in Rio de Janeiro. We will also make an analysis about the relationship of doctors with the political environment in the federal capital, what are the reasons for these doctors to have this prestige and a certain autonomy to justify their projects of reformation of society and specifically of women in this period.
