SUMMARY:

The research will analyze the locality of Queimados in the 19th century from the formation of the parish of Nossa Senhora de Marapicu, which originates from Morgadio de Marapicu. The locality arises from leases at Fazenda São João de Queimados and develops throughout the second half of the 19th century, especially after the arrival of the D. Pedro II Railway in 1858. In 1879 the Nossa Senhora da Igreja church was installed. Conceição, marking the territorial redefinition, however, the district's headquarters only definitively left Marapicu for Queimados in the 20th century, in 1924. We intend to understand the emergence and development of this location throughout the 19th century, since at the end of the century XX becomes one of the municipalities of what would become the Baixada Fluminense, and there are few records of the emergence and development of this territorial space before its emancipation from the municipality of Nova Iguaçu.
