SUMMARY:

The research has as its theme the lay Catholic association entitled “Liga pela Moralidade”, based in Rio de Janeiro. The focus is on the sociability networks built since the organization of the association, between the years 1912 and 1929. The development of the association and its moral sanitation campaigns are some of the points to be studied, so that the issues of gender, religion, culture and politics will be the main connections to be studied since the emergence of the “Liga”. We analyzed some news that appeared in the press in the years between 1912 and 1929, in order to list the representation of the “Liga” before the society of Rio de Janeiro in this context. In order to understand the relevance and purpose of associations of a religious nature in the face of notions of morality and speeches about a social and guiding moral of the nation.
