SUMMARY:

This research aims to analyze the work of Francisco José de Jaca (1645-1689), “Resolution on the freedom of blacks and their natives, in a state of pagans and después ya Christians”, whose writing denounced the abuses committed against enslaved Africans in Spanish America. In this work Jaca questions all the legal and theological principles that were intended to justify slavery. The text was produced in the 17th century, however there are continuities with the theological-juridical tradition of the 16th century, especially the Second Scholastics and authors linked to the School of Salamanca.
