SUMMARY:

Different views and debates intensified with the imminent end of slavery at the end of the 19th century, many social and political aspects of the empire were disputed by the slavers, among them, the maintenance of slave labor. The trafficking and commerce of slaves in the municipality of Cantagalo in this period, coexisted with  the increasing and gradual spraying of those opposed to the maintenance of slavery. In the region of Cantagalo, the continuous trade of enslaved workers for the production of coffee was maintained until its imminent exhaustion in 1888. In the observation of these contexts, we will seek to analyze and understand some indications and trajectories of these workers “arrived” in Cantagalo in the late 19th century. We will analyze the buying and selling scenario of enslaved workers in the region at the end of the 19th century. We will also seek to analyze and understand different demo-economic variables (gender, age, origin, color, occupation) of these workers found in the book of purchases and sales of Cantagalo. Finally, we will investigate the "festival of blacks", looking for discourses against and in favor of the maintenance of slavery in Cantagalo, as well as analyzing and understanding some reports and events on that day of abolition in the region.
