SUMMARY:

This research aims to look carefully a topic within social slavery that requires more studies: enslaved women. Focusing the analysis in the city of Itaguaí, specifically the villa of São Francisco Xavier during slavery’s last decades. The purpose is to understand how the socioeconomic dynamics worked for enslaved women in that area, as well as the demographic changes. Furthermore, it will also be discussed their family situations before the abolition of slavery and how those black women  and their families dealt with those experiences. Last but not least, it will be relevant as well to understand aspects of their social life and the capacity or lack of social mobility in their lives. For that, it is intended to use methodological resources of the microhistory in large scale. Finally, the main objective of this research is to analyze black women and their trajectories within the last decades of slavery times.
