SUMMARY:

The present work aims to analyze the legal norms present in the Theodosian Code, developed by the Roman Emperor Flavius Claudius Julian (361 - 363 C. E.), known as "the apostate". To fulfill the thesis proposal, we will study the relationship between two fields of knowledge: History and Law. Thus, we will investigate from the studies of the social sciences, the historical-social process of Law, in order to better analyze the development and characteristics of Roman Law, in order to finally understand how Juliano's norms reinforced his centralizing practices and how they were important for the maintenance of imperial power, even during the governments of Christian emperors.
