SUMMARY:

The institutionalization of the Network of Professional, Scientific and Technological Education within the federal education system and, consequently, the creation of the Federal Institutes of Education, Science and Technology, brought the verticalization of education as one of its purposes, which presupposes the provision of basic, professional and higher education in the same educational unit. The proposal for this new configuration aims to take advantage of the structural whole that includes the teaching staff, so that it can materialize the policy designed for the current configuration of public professional education in Brazil. In view of the above, we intend to reflect on the implications of the policy of verticalization of education on the teaching work, considering what is established in the current configuration of public professional education in Brazil, with structures and regulations clearly aimed at the interests of the bourgeoisie, and the materialization of this “new” professional education that requires teachers to face multiple challenges. A versatility that, in our hypothesis, can cause the alienation of teachers, resulting in the precariousness of teaching work. This is a basic research with an explanatory purpose to be carried out under the lens of dialectical-historical materialism based on the categories of work and alienation, with the class struggle as a backdrop. Through this perspective, we will seek to understand the concrete aspects existing in the teaching work of verticalized education in the units of Instituto Federal de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia Goiano (IF Goiano) and its contradictions in order to reach the subjectivities. The subjects of this research will be teachers who work at all levels offered in the units of IF Goiano who will be approached through closed questionnaires and flexible and semi-structured interviews. A bibliographic survey and institutional documents will also be used, as well as official documents that regulate the Professional and Technological Education. The data will be analyzed in the light of a theoretical framework corresponding to the method of historical-dialectical materialism. With this study, we intend to find answers related to the implications of verticalized education on teaching work, considering the complexities of pedagogical practice, as well as the ontological condition of the teacher who works in a multifaceted and heterogeneous environment. The intention is to raise reflections on current public professional education and its subordination to capitalist dictates, taking into account the challenges faced by flexible and versatile teachers in the context of teaching work.
