ABSTRACT
The practice of physical activities has been present in human life since the beginning. In
the educational system, the first debates and initiatives focused on physical education
began to appear at the beginning of the imperial period, although this was not yet included
in the organization of national education. In each historical moment, physical education
had different conceptions and appeared in the Legal Documents with different objectives.
These conceptions that permeated and permeate the area were/are able to influence, for
example, the contents developed in the discipline. Recent studies indicate that physical
education still seeks legitimacy, including the curriculum, highlighting difficulties that
still exist in determining its specific contents. There is still a high prevalence of sports
content in classes and a strong association between the discipline and the biological
perspective. These notes from the scientific community make us question: “what did
individuals learn in the discipline of school physical education after 12 years in basic
education?” “Are these learnings conditioned by historically established conceptions?”
And, finally, “has the assumptions of physical education based on hygienism and
sportsmanship been overcome from its epistemological evolution?”. Thus, considering
the tensions related to the curricular legitimacy of the discipline, this research will aim to
analyze the learning evoked by social subjects attributed to the participation in the
discipline of physical education at school during the period of basic schooling. A
quantitative research approach will be used, with a cross-sectional design with a retroanalytical
component, of the historical type. It will be descriptive, correlational and
comparative. It will be carried out remotely, in view of the limitations imposed by the
Covid-19. Sampling will be convenient in the first moment and voluntary nonprobabilistic
in the second. The sample will be supported by the snowball sampling
technique, starting with 100 participants selected by the researcher, meeting criteria of
convenience. In the end, it is expected that at least 1000 participants make up the sample.
For data collection, two instruments will be used, namely: the Sociodemographic
Questionnaire and the Learning Questionnaire in School Physical Education (QSPE). The
data will be statistically treated in the IMB SPSS Statistics Software, using descriptive
and inferential statistics.
