SUMMARY:

Reading and writing are important practices for the construction of knowledge and for the formation of critical individuals (Solé, 1998; Koch; Elias, 2022; Freire, 2011; Kleiman, 2002; among others). In Brazilian schools, especially public ones, skills associated with these linguistic modalities are essential, as they enable the overcoming of learning gaps and social inequalities, among other possibilities. In this same context, the genre biography stands out as a way to construct identities (Arfuch, 2010); a narrative used to respectfully recount the lives of others (Lejeune, 2008). It allows for the retrieval of life stories, interacting with other narratives that circulate in the school environment, becoming a ally in the process of teaching and learning the mother tongue. Based on these assumptions, this project aims to develop a teaching mediation on biographical texts and apply it in two sixth-grade classes of a municipal school in Resende, a municipality located in the South Fluminense Region of the State of Rio de Janeiro. The proposal is based on action-research methods (Thiollent, 1986; Tripp, 2005; Thiollent; Colette, 2014) and Didactic Sequence (Dolz; Schneuwly; Noverraz, 2004), and the results of the first application will be disclosed in the dissertation linked to it. In general terms, it aims to contribute to the teaching of the mother tongue, focusing on reading, interpretation, understanding, and production of biographical texts. More specifically, it seeks to: i) stimulate reading and writing habits; ii) work on the characteristics of the biography genre in a contextualized way; iii) develop students' argumentative and discursive abilities through stories of their own lives and the lives of others (whether close or not); iv) value their experiences in the teaching-learning process; and v) form autonomous, conscious, and active readers and writers in society. It is believed that exploring reading and the production of biographical texts will stimulate, in students, empathy, critical analysis, and appreciation of unique experiences found in texts of this nature.
