RESUMO:

The purpose of this study is to investigate how reading anticipation strategies can help the students to understand texts. These strategies were the focus of activities that were prepared for pedagogical mediation applied in the classroom. Students in seventh year elementary from Escola Municipal Coronel Moreira da Silva were the subject of this study. In the study examined the role of anticipation. This was a teacher giving context, guidelines and stimulating debate or discussion with the students prior to reading.These activities which were taken from the pedagogical plan. There aim was to help students with the metacognitive action of anticipation. Namely elaboration of hypothese the use of prior knowledge and inference. News articles were uses as the subject of the texts, this is because the structure of the text allowed easily for anticipation. The Title and the images in the news genre were important to help stimulate the readers thoughts prior to reading. We also found that using current subjects meant that students interacted better. The theoretical basis for this research came from the theories of Bakhtin (2003), Marcuschi (2008), Kleiman (2011), Koch and Elias (2015), Solé (1998), Dell'isola (2001), Ducrot (1987), Alves Filho (2011), Kaufman and Rodríguez (1995), Thiollent (1986) and others. The results showed that the teacher’s role as a mediator to anticipation prior to reading was very important. The results demonstrated that by applying well directed reading activities, giving students criteria, and encouraging students to use strategies help avoid difficulties and delve deeper into the text.
