Construction of senses: metaphors and metonymies as resources of daily language

It stands to reason that, in schools, the teaching of a mother language is very restricted to didactic handbooks and traditionally definitions established. In relation to semantics, teach figures of speech, for example, delimits to a reiteration of concepts that, in ancient times, the traditional eloquence considered as expressive resource of use strictly literary and totally unconnected of daily speech. In opposition, Cognitive Linguistics opens a new perspective to see a construction of meanings, increasing an idea that sense is a result of several factors, such as cultural, temporary, interaction, among others, allied to the linguistic factor. Once understood that metaphors and metonymy are own resources of daily speech, this search aims to study why students in the 9th year of elementary school which still find it hard to interpret and understand the meaning of texts with connotative basis. This way, this search, seeks to propose a pedagogical mediation, based on the molds of Cognitive Linguistics (CL), in order to establish new priorities in relation to language teaching, making the learning more meaningful, and functional for the comunication’s purpose.
