SUMMARY:

The present project will focus on the contribution of metacognitive didactics as a way to enhance the understanding of metaphorical language in African literature texts. The main objective of this work proposal is to analyze bibliographic references that direct the studies in a more in-depth way, allowing the conclusions from the research, to contribute to the elaboration of a didactic sequence capable of improving the students' performance regarding the interpretation of these texts , especially the metaphorical language present in the stories of the author Mia Couto (2009, 2012, 2014). The research proposal arose from the difficulty presented by students in the face of text interpretation activities with the most metaphorical content, therefore, the didactic sequence will be structured with pedagogical proposals supported by metacognitive didactics, aiming, thus, that students develop a practice more successful reading and are encouraged to manage their own learning process through self-regulation, after all, we live in a graphocentric society which makes the act of proficient reading and writing essential. The present research is theoretically based on the assumptions of Cognitive Linguistics based on the studies of Lakoff and Johnson (2002), orienting towards a metacognitive didactic as proposed by Palomanes (2018), based on the studies of Flavell (1987), Brown (1978), Flavell and Wellman (1977); Boruchovitch and Gomes (2019) based on the studies of Bandura (1996) and Zimmerman (1998). Through the bibliographic research methodology, supported by authors such as Lakatos and Marconi (2003), scientific works will be read, which will enable the construction of the theoretical foundation of the research, the identification of contradictions, the discovery of answers to questions and, finally, the formulation of conclusions about the study carried out.
