SUMMARY:

This research aims to understand how the use of resistance literature, through collaborative reading and debates, can contribute to the training of student readers in the municipal public school. For this, we developed an intervention activity which was carried out in a class of the 7th year of Elementary School in a municipal school in the city of Nilópolis in Rio de Janeiro. We chose to orient ourselves methodologically through action research (THIOLLENT, 2002) because it favors the dialogue between teacher-researcher and the people involved in research in order to seek democratic solutions to the observed problem. Based on the problem presented, we elaborated an intervention proposal taking into account the profile of the researched class, and for that we chose the bookMalala, the girl who wanted to go to school (CARRANCA, 2015) which addresses topics of relevance to students in addition to address issues of post-colonialist literature, such as discursive retaliation (BONNICI, 2009), disguised civility and mimicry (BHABHA, 1998). We chose to work on the book based on oral reading because we recognized its benefits for the students of public schools that had little contact with different readings. Despite the difficulties encountered in the development of this research, we managed to combine theory with significant practice in order to promote the training of student readers. In theoretical terms, we are based on the contributions established by Colomer (2007), Cosson (2014), Candido (1972, 2004), Rosenfeld (2014), Cadermatori (2012), Mignolo (2007), among others. The results indicate that the students reacted positively to the chosen book and the proposed way of reading. We believe that there is a need to reflect on how reading is promoted in schools today, as oral reading can be a favorable ally for restoring the humanizing and socializing function of reading, in addition to providing a better receptivity of the literary text in the classroom.
