SUMMARY:

The views of many Portuguese language teachers are focused on discussions about pedagogical practices in the teaching of reading. Much has been produced. Among so many studies, it seeks to promote a reflection on teaching strategies, which enable the development of skills, which lead to reading competence. This work aims to critically propose and analyze a didactic sequence, which uses metacognitive strategies for the formation of concepts and production of meanings in multimodal meme text. It is a qualitative methodology that provides a theoretical basis for this pedagogical practice. Considerations about the material are based on:  Cavalcante e Ribeiro (2015), Gerhardt, Albuquerque e Silva (2009), Guerreiro & Soares (2016), Kato (1985), Kleiman (2000), Marcuschi (2008), Palomanes (2018), Rojo (2012), Silva (2018), Solé (1998), Souza (2019) and others. It is based on the assumption that working with multimodal texts and, especially, with the meme genre, which is already part of the cultural repertoire of our students, allows for greater participation and attention in activities. It is sought to emphasize in this research, that the use of metacognitive strategies in reading, brings an autonomy and self-regulation on the part of our students, in order to contribute to the comprehension of the text. Thus, we want to confirm that the use of metacognitive strategies in teaching reading of multimodal texts such as memes is, above all, an excellent resource for our student, reader, to reach the understanding of texts and, moreover, to enable to manage, monitor and verify your learning.
