SUMMARY:

Reading does not only involve decoding the graphic symbols that represent the words, since all the information (verbal and non-verbal) present in a text must be considered for its construction of meanings. It is believed that it is possible to efficiently develop reading skills provided by the SAEB through metacognitive strategies for the full understanding of texts belonging to the most varied genres, considering the production conditions, the choice of words, the multimodality, the structure of the texts and the discursive intentions behind the explicitly presented information. The general objective of this research is to develop a reading script with metacognitive activities that help students to read literary texts, focusing on skills 1, 2 and 3 provided by the SAEB, of the Analyze cognitive axis, which are related to the reading of literary texts. As specific objectives, we intend to introduce students to the notion of what is considered a text so that they are able to (1) analyze not only the verbal aspects for the construction of meanings in the literary text, but also the non-verbal aspects, such as formatting, layout and, if any, illustrations; (2) propose, through questions and commands, reading steps that guide the student so that he is able to activate his previous knowledge and understand the subtleties of literary language, including perceiving the intertextualities present for the expansion of the meanings that are built into the texts. The research will be developed from Lerner (2002), Vargas (2013), Leffa (1996) and Kleiman (2004). The research methodology to be used will be bibliographic and propositional, with activities aimed at reading four literary books selected for the 6th grade. The works chosen for the development of the script will be Jessica's Box, by Peter Carnavas, Rain School, by James Rumford, La Fontaine’s fables in cord, by Wilson Marques, and The King's Dip, by Caio Ducca.
