SUMMARY:

The institutional reception of children and adolescents in shelters is a provisional and exceptional measure, however, not always consistent with the reality of the institutions, nowadays that it is possible to observe is a judicialization of relationships and families historically neglected by the state. The host context in Brazil has a historical border of social and racial inequality, that is, the profile of families and of teenagers who remain in institutions for more than two years, is affected by socioeconomic vulnerability and institutional racism. Given this context, the objective of the research is to identify whether there are racial literacy practices in institutions that host adolescents and what are the impacts of this on the sheltered adolescents. Revealing the racist intersections and possible racist practices perpetuated in institutional shelters that can be placed as risk factors for these young people or possible protective developments from an intervention through literacy practices, considering these institutions as a socio-historical space and It is extremely important to ensure the protection of adolescents.
