Doctor-patient communication: perspectives and practices from resident doctors in a federal hospital setting
Soft Technologies, Health Communication, Hospital Psychology, Doctor-Patient Communication, Social Skills.Communication skills, empathetic understanding and acceptance are critical factors for comprehensive care and the quality of care provided by professionals to users of health services. This objective research comprises the perception of medical residents about the challenges of communication in daily hospital life, as well as investigating their repertoire of interpersonal skills when caring for patients and their companions. To this end, self-administered questionnaires will be applied to doctors enrolled in the residency program of a federal hospital located in the city of Rio de Janeiro, as well as two meetings will be held in the form of a focus group in order to understand their perceptions, knowledge and practices related to communication processes in the institutional context, including the communication of bad news. It is expected that the data generated can support professional training actions capable of contributing to a greater humanization of services in the hospital environment, expanding the reach of “light technologies” in health care.
