The act of reading is directly related to the process of schooling. As a result, the reading of literary texts by individuals with low levels of education or those who have not had access to formal education may be limited or even absent. Due to historical and socio-cultural factors, the afro-brazilian population has the lowest levels of education. This scenario becomes even more concerning when considering the elderly population, as policies promoting and mandating formal education are relatively recent. Understanding literature as a tool for identification, reflection, and the construction of new meanings, the aim of this study is to analyze the contributions of racialized women's literature and literary circles in promoting mental health and well-being among elderly individuals who attend the Elderly Center in the municipality of Seropédica (RJ). The meetings will last approximately one hour, during which short literary texts will be read and discussed. This qualitative research will utilize cartography and "escrevivênca" as methods. The goal is to understand the affects and subjectivities involved in a research-intervention process infused with literary texts authored by black, indigenous or african aiming to promote mental health and well-being among elderly individuals in peripheral communities.
