Psychological factors and the relationship with the use of antidepressants and anxiolytics in elderly residents of a Long Stay Institution for the Elderly in the municipality of Seropédica
Long-stay institution for the elderly, anxiolytics, antidepressants, health of the institutionalized elderly.
Population ageing comes in different forms according to the different cultures experienced in their respective societies and established contexts. The ageing process is marked by cognitive, physical, psychological and social changes. In view of this, today's society is witnessing a significant increase in the number of older people in Brazil. In this sense, there is a need for targeted care for the elderly. Thus, with the aim of providing comprehensive care for the ageing process, the Long Stay Institutions for the Elderly (IPLI) have come into being. In LTCIEs, the elderly are accompanied by a team of health professionals in order to meet the specific demands of the elderly. To this end, it is important to look at the psychological factors associated with the use of psychotropic drugs in LTCIEs, given the context of deprivation of social interaction experienced by the elderly. This study will use psychological tests to investigate the possible damage caused by the use of antidepressants and anxiolytics in institutionalized elderly people. The research will use the Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS) and the Geriatric Anxiety Inventory (GAI) as research tools. In view of the above, we hope to understand the possible psychological damage associated with the use of antidepressants and anxiolytics in elderly people living in an ILPI. In this way, the project aims to contribute to the development of tangible research into this problem.
