SUMMARY:

This thesis investigates the connection between the concept of human sustainability and psychology training, considering the five dimensions of sustainability—political, social, economic, environmental, and cultural—as foundations for the comprehensive training of psychologists. The central question seeks to answer: what is the possible connection between the concept of human sustainability and psychology training? The study is based on the recognition that, since the 1972 United Nations Conference on the Human Environment in Stockholm, Sweden, 20 years later, the Eco-92 in Rio de Janeiro, and the formulation of the 2030 Agenda/Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the debate on sustainability has intensified, but the human dimension remains incipient in the National Curricular Guidelines (NCGs) for psychology programs. The research has threefold relevance: (i) academic, by expanding the theoretical framework between psychology and sustainability; (ii) professional, by supporting the updating of training policies for psychological practice; and (iii) social and innovative, by strengthening Psychology's contribution to the International Decade of Science for Sustainable Development (2024–2033) and to more just, dignified, and resilient societies. The overall objective is to investigate the possible connection between human sustainability and Psychology training. The specific objectives include: a) mapping the state-of-the-art concept of human sustainability between 1972 and 2025; b) analyzing the historical evolution of the National Curricular Guidelines for Psychology since the 1960s; c) proposing sustainable recommendations for incorporating the five dimensions of sustainability into psychologist training, in dialogue with the 2030 Agenda; and d) presenting an innovative conceptual and methodological model, inspired by Marujo's Sustainable Model 5.E, to enhance the training of psychologists as agents of socio-environmental transformation. The methodological approach is qualitative, exploratory, and descriptive, theoretical in nature, structured as bibliographic and documentary research. The corpus comprises national and international publications (1972–2025) and institutional documents, such as the National Curricular Guidelines (NCGs), UN, UNESCO, and WHO reports. The bibliographic survey will follow a transparent protocol using the PRISMA Checklist, ensuring traceability. The analysis will be supported by Content Analysis and Document Analysis, engaging with methodological contributions to planning and ensuring consistency between objectives and methods. Scientific quality criteria—credibility, transferability, dependability, and confirmability—will be ensured. The aim is to produce thematic and interpretative categories that reveal the conceptual maturity of human sustainability, identify gaps and potentialities in the Psychology National Curricular Guidelines (NCGs), and propose an integrated training model. These findings should contribute to the review and improvement of psychology training policies in Brazil, reinforcing Psychology's social responsibility in promoting human sustainability.
