contained in the concept of self (self-concept) are perceived as positive. It reflects the subject's physical self-image his / her own vision of achievements, abilities and values. The more positive the perception of these qualities and characteristics, the greater the self-esteem. The locus of control, on the other hand, explains and describes the more or less stable beliefs by which the person establishes the origin, the center of control of his events and of his own behavior. The phenomenon goes beyond the cognitive-perceptual-emotional scope and represents a form of existence whereby a person not only explains but also defines and structures his own destiny. In the present study, the objective was to study the phenomena of control locus and self-esteem in cadets, as well as the association of such variables with the results of their attitudinal evaluations (transversal competences). In the Military Academy of Agulhas Negras (AMAN), the evaluation of these competences occurs in a holistic and integrative way, seeking to measure the development of military identity throughout the course, synthesizing in grades the cadet performance, integrating the process of meritocracy and providing subsidies for decisions, from a more complete view of the students' attitudinal profile. The study participants were cadets from the four years of AMAN training. All the ethical precepts for the data collection were made, being the voluntary participation and with filling of Term of Free and Informed Consent. Participants filled out the research tools collectively: Levenson's Multidimensional Locus of Control Scale (Levenson, 1981) and the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (EAR) (Rosenberg, 1965). The study was developed in four stages. In the first one the objective was the validation of these scales for the military context of AMAN, with the participation of cadets of all the four years of formation. After Confirmatory Factor Analysis (AFC) procedures, the EAR was validated with 9 items and the Multidimensional Levenson Control Locus Scale was validated with 20 items. In the second stage, based on the technique of the focus groups, the qualitative survey of the perception of the self-esteem phenomena and control locus by the cadets was carried out. Results of this stage corroborated with the theory, as well as presented the cadets' current perception about these variables. The third step was the correlation between the self-esteem and the control locus with the attitudinal performance of the cadet. At the moment, the results indicated that there is an association between the studied phenomena, corroborating again with the theory. Finally, using the Modeling of Structural Equations, a general model of the study was elaborated, which relates the locus of control and self-esteem data, testing the influence of the first on the second. The results corroborate partially with the hypothesis of study, once the influence was observed. All data and results raised in the present study should be interpreted with caution. It is suggested to carry out complementary studies, with other instruments and variables, in order to better understand the validity indicators presented herein, as well as the role of each of the study variables for AMAN's military higher education process.
