RESUMO:

This research aims to identify the Social Representations of gender (male and female) in public school students in the city of Nova Iguaçu, investigating what are the existing gender norms that contribute to the creation of social, cultural subjects as “ man and woman". Thus, it proposes to develop a psychosocial study, based on the theoretical framework of the Theory of Social Representations (TRS). At the outset, it should be clarified that the construction of social representations of gender is a process that takes place within the most diverse interactions of the individual with the environment and are defined as "a particular mode of knowledge whose function is the elaboration of behaviors and communication between individuals ". In this logic, being the school one of the means where intense and constant interactions take place, it is necessary to understand the Social Representations of gender, considering that they are responsible for guiding social practices, behaviors and behaviors. From this discussion, this paper proposes to investigate the existing Social Representations of what it is to be “male” and “female” for young high school students from Nova Iguaçu public school aged 18 to 21 years, aiming to identify the elements that make up the central nucleus (NC) of gender representation as well as its elements that make up the Peripheral System (SP).
