RESUMO:

The elderly population arouses great interest in the present, for its growth, being increasingly necessary to elucidate what are the clinical conditions that can indicate the appearance of cognitive decline in this population. This dissertation was elaborated from two articles. The first presents an investigation in the literature, based on the systematic review model, aiming to investigate the cognitive decline in aging and the use of executive tools and functionality. With this review, we observed that the executive functions are related to the competences in the daily actions, and when associated with functional instruments contribute to a better understanding of the underlying alterations in the cognitive decline, evidencing the clinical diagnosis. For the accomplishment of this study was cataloged 2070 documents and after careful analysis, 30 was selected for qualitative analysis. In the description of the documents analyzed, a thematic relevance categorization was considered, and the following areas were established: functional limitations and syndromic diagnosis, functional limitations and subjective complaint, executive functions and brain areas, and functionality in the elderly. The second study presents an experimental study carried out in the geriatric outpatient clinic of the University Hospital Clementino Fraga Filho in which a descriptive inferential analysis was performed on 63 patients attended in this outpatient clinic, using the following measures used in the Geriatric Comprehensive Assessment: Mini Mental State Examination MEEM), Clock Drawing Test (TDR), Semantic Verbal Fluency (VF), Clinical Dementia Scale (CDR), Katz Scale, Lawton Scale. Neuropsychological measures aimed at evaluating executive functioning were aligned with these instruments, they are: Digit Testing, Number and Letter Sequence Testing, Cube Testing, Part A Track Testing (TMTA) and Part B (TMTB). The results showed that the sample studied was composed of 76.2% of women, the mean age was 77.8 years, and the schooling represented in years of studies showed that 30.2% had between 05 and 08 years of age. studies. The results obtained in the MMSE in this sample indicated that 52.4% of the participants did not present cognitive alteration at the examination, 28.6% did not present alterations in the VF test and in the TDR 28.6% did not present any flaws in the task, the CDR result showed that 90.5% of subjects had questionable dementia. The results obtained in the executive tests show that TMT B is affected by schooling and aging, and the Lawton Scale showed a higher average for the group with the highest schooling.
