The objective of this study was to investigate the most prevalent schematic domains in a clinical and university sample, comparing the schemes of both groups, as well as to evaluate the parental styles present and the risk or vulnerability to depression in the university sample. The sample consisted of 57 adults, of both sexes, between 19 and 68 years of age. For this, the Young Scheme Questionnaire was used to identify the Remote Maladaptive Schemes; the Parenting Styles Inventory to pinpoint parenting styles, and the Beck Depression Inventory to assess depressive symptoms. After evaluation, the most frequent Remedial Disorders were emotional deprivation, mistrust / abuse, self-sacrifice, failure, subjugation and social isolation in the clinical sample, and self-sacrifice and mistrust schemes were significantly more prevalent in both groups. The most frequent parenting styles were: emotional deprivation, dependency / incompetence, negativism / pessimism in the clinical sample, and the paternal parental style of inflexible patterns as significantly more prevalent in the two groups. There were no significant differences in parenting styles in the university sample as well as maternal parenting styles in the two groups. It was possible to observe a vulnerability to depression in the university sample, since 96.5% showed some level of depressive symptoms. In general, there was an association between the three variables investigated, namely, maladaptive Remote Schemes, Parenting Styles and Depressive Symptoms.
