RESUMO:

The purpose of this study was to investigate the social memory of the evangelical religion of the city of Paracambi, in order to analyze which factors contributed to the evangelical religion reaching the majority of followers during the 20th century, specifically between the 1970s and 2000s. The theme of research was given by observing the daily life of the city, perceiving the impacts of the evangelical majority in the local social context. The field of study of social memory is used as a theoretical reference, especially in the perspective of Celso Sá's common memories and Michael Pollak's underground memories. The temporal delimitation is due to the fact that the city has undergone social, economic and also religious transformations in this historical period. We use as a research method oral narratives, through thematic life histories. It is concluded that the expansion of the evangelical religion in the city was due to economic factors and also to the emergence of an evangelical religious movement called Paracambi Para Cristo
